Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/26/2017

Offerings:  18,200          Last Sale 10/12/2017:  17,700

   Compared to the last sale:  Feeder cattle lightly tested for current 
delivery with few comparable weight ranges to compare to for feeder steers 
and heifers.  However a lighter undertone was noted.  November futures have 
consistently been up a few dollars on October futures since the last video 
auction providing a little more incentive for later delivery along with the 
volatile weather in October creating doubt.  Reports out of Western Nebraska 
confirming extreme volatile weather conditions during weaning of calves 
throughout that area over the last two weeks with a few inches of snow. The 
latest Cattle on Feed report displayed a considerably higher about of 
placements than expected causing a lull in demand recently along with a 
preconceived knowledge that a large supply of calves awaits us in the near 
future already.  Slaughter cattle prices dipped a bit this week with many 
producers sending open cows to the barns.

   Supply includes 43 percent over 600 lbs; 58 percent of supply steers; 
38 percent heifers.  Receipts included 59 percent from South Central; 12
percent North Central; 8 percent West; 21 percent East.  Prices FOB
based on net weights after a 2-3 percent pencil shrink or equivalent,
with a 4-8 cent slide on yearlings and 8-12 cent slide on calves.  
Current deliveries are cattle that will delivery up to 14 days from the
last sale day of the video.  Deliveries current to March 2018.
