Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 04/04/2019
Receipts: 1,208 Last Week: 5,458 Year Ago: 826
Compared to last week: Steers and heifers were too lightly tested
this week to develop an accurate market trend. Quality this week
was mostly plain to average, lower than last week?s high quality
offering. Calves were mostly offered in small packages forcing buyers
to piece together loads. Demand for feeders was mostly moderate to
good as mostly grass cattle were on offer. Offerings were light.
Market activity this week was moderate to active despite light
offerings. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good to very good demand
for light offerings. Packers continued buying cows for immediate
harvest this sale. Demand for slaughter cows was the driving force
behind the cattle market this week. Slaughter cows sold mostly 5.00
-8.00 higher. Feeding cows sold on good demand this week as well.
With packers heavily purchasing cows for harvest, feeding buyers
were forced to pay higher money for cows in order to fill orders.
Feeding cows sold 4.00-6.00 higher, with instances of higher sales
seen at times. Slaughter bulls sold 1.00-3.00 higher as packers
searched for lean grinding material. The feeder cattle offering was
37 percent steers and bulls, 63 percent heifers with 66 percent
weighing over 600 lbs. Today supply consisted of 53 percent feeder
cattle, 10 percent slaughter cows, 2 percent slaughter bulls, 30 percent
feeding cows and bulls and cows returning to the country, balance bred
cows, heifers, and pairs. Next sale is Thursday April 11th 2019.
