Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Cattle (week end 02-21-2020)
Confirmed Sales:
Week to date: 80 Last week: 240 Last Year: 80

Trading from late last Friday through Friday morning of this week
remains light to inactive with mostly steady bids this week. Flat
dressed sales with last week are steady at 190.00. Last Friday CME
cattle futures staged a strong rally while hopefully stopping the fund
liquidation. The rally carried over into the middle of this week and
with the market rally in the CME cattle futures no doubt created some
short lived optimism in the feedlot trade as cash responded to the
futures on Wednesday with fed cattle trading in the Southern Plains at
120.00, a 1.00 higher than last week?s average. On Thursday CME cattle
futures retreated to the downside in some cases with triple-digit losses
playing back into the packer?s hands as cash trade in Nebraska was steady
to 1.00 higher at 119.00-120.00 and dressed sales steady at 190.00. Cut-
out values continue to drift lower, but as we move into March the cut-out
should gain in value. Thursday Choice closed 1.07 lower at 204.50 with
Select .16 cents lower at 201.60, with Choice-Select spread of 2.90
compared to last Friday?s close with Choice at 208.09 and Select at
205.71. The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on
Thursday was estimated at 9.11 per cwt live, unchanged when compared to
Wednesday?s value.
