Compared to last Thursday's sale, Slaughter steers sold mostly 1.00-2.00
higher. Slaughter Holsteins not tested last week so no comparison available
but a higher undertone noted. Slaughter heifers not tested last week but a
firm undertone noted. Demand was very good for all classes. Slaughter cows
sold mostly 4.00-5.00 higher. Demand was very good. The lake effect snow that
fell this week has slowed movement of slaughter cows out of Canada making the
demand for local cow's rise thus increasing the price dramatically. Cattle
supplies included 231 slaughter steers; 76 heifers; 400 cows; 45 bulls; and
56 feeder calves. All prices per cwt.
Slaughter Steers: High Choice and Prime 3-4 1250-1600 lbs 171.00-174.50,
mostly 171.00-173.50. Choice 2-3 1300-1650 lbs 167.00-170.00. Select 1-3
1250-1700 lbs 159.00-166.00.
Slaughter Holsteins: High Choice and Prime 3-4 1350-1650 lbs 164.00-
169.00. Choice 2-3 1300-1600 lbs 157.00-161.50. Select 1-2 1300-1700 lbs

Return to Farm Holstein Calves: Compared to last week Holstein bull calves
sold sharply lower, mostly 60.00-80.00 lower. Buyers needing calves for
Special Fed Veal Operations expressed light demand, which pulled the market
lower. Buyers needing calves for feedlot production continued to express very
good demand, and aggressively purchase calves and lower prices. Heifers sold
weak on a light test. Ag Market News LLC under the USDA-QSA-LMAR program
graded 459 head for Thursday's sale. All calves are sold by the cwt.
Graded Holstein Bull Calves: Number 1 110-128 lbs 355.00-395.00; 94-108
lbs 415.00-425.00; 80-92 lbs 445.00-450.00. Number 2 120-128 lbs 360.00; 98-
118 lbs 397.00-415.00; 80-96 lbs 425.00-440.00. Number 3 100-130 lbs 375.00-
385.00; 72-98 lbs 400.00-428.00. Utility 60-110 lbs 125.00-170.00.
Holstein Heifer Calves: Number 1 75-110 lbs 340.00-400.00. Number 2 80-
900 lbs 260.00-290.00; 70-80 lbs 100.00-200.00. Non tubing/Utility 60-85 lbs
15.00-50.00.
