Cattle and Calf Auction Report for Thursday, February 19, 2015
Cattle Calves
This Week: 695 647
Last Week: 970 607
Last Year: 936 679
Compared to last week, Slaughter steers sold mostly 3.00-4.00 higher
on a very light test. Not enough Slaughter Holsteins for a market test.
Slaughter heifers sold mostly 2.00-3.00 higher on a very light test.
Demand was good for all classes. Slaughter cows sold mostly 1.00-2.00
higher. Demand was good. The price movement for today's market can be
attributed primarily to the winter storm that grips much of the country.
Light supplies over an extended period have created a false market due
to the constant demand of the ethnic markets and the increased local
demand of the large slaughter plants due to transportation problems
caused by the winter weather event. Cattle supplies included 158 steers;
80 heifers; 432 cows; 19 bulls; and 6 feeder calves. All prices per cwt.
