Missouri Weekly Weighted Average Feeder Cattle Report ? Week Ending 02/15/19
Receipts: 23,734 Week Ago: 43,311 Year Ago: 30,662
Compared to last week feeder steers and heifers sold unevenly steady
to 3.00 lower. Although there was some local markets which saw spots of
higher money compared to last week, weather factors and resulting lighter
receipts this week did have an effect on the overall market. Farmers and
feeders alike are extremely ready to see some more consist weather as the
volatility of this winter has just been unbelievably difficult to deal
with. Although there has been a lot of grass cattle bought over the last
month there is undoubtedly many orders left to be filled as potential new
owners are hoping for some kind of weather break to make the new home
transition a bit less risky and just all around easier. Mud continues to
be a huge problem for transporting cattle, for feeding and herd health.
Many producers have said if this isn?t the worse mud they have ever seen
while farming it is for sure the longest lasting. Limited feed lot sales
this week have continued that mostly sideways trade some live sales at
124.00 and dressed at 199.00-200.00. Levels really have not changed but
a few dollars over the last several weeks. Boxed beef cutouts as of
Thursday?s close were mixed with choice up slightly at 216.07 and select
down slightly at 210.41. The Missouri Statewide Stocker Calf Index,
which is a rolling 7 day weighted average for all Medium and Large 1 and
1-2 Steers from 400-649 lbs, was 157.68.
